Millions of visitors arrive in Las Vegas every year, and many of them drive — rental cars, RVs, personal vehicles, everything. When a breakdown happens on Las Vegas Boulevard, the stakes are higher than in most cities: heavy traffic, pedestrian congestion, extreme heat, and the unfamiliar surroundings of an out-of-town visitor all compound the stress of an already bad situation.
Where to Pull Over on Las Vegas Boulevard
Las Vegas Boulevard is not a road you want to break down on, but if it happens, here’s where to safely stop:
- Casino parking garage entrances: Most major resorts allow you to pull into their driveway briefly in an emergency — better than blocking traffic
- Side streets off the Strip: Koval Lane, Harmon Avenue, and Flamingo Road all have pull-off areas within a block of the Boulevard
- Designated breakdown lanes: Limited but present on some sections — stay as far right as possible with hazards on
Never attempt to push your vehicle on Las Vegas Boulevard. Traffic moves unpredictably and pedestrian crossings create additional hazards.
Rental Cars: Who’s Responsible?
If you’re driving a rental car, your first call should be to the rental company’s roadside assistance line. However, rental company response times can be long — often 90 minutes or more — and their dispatched tow trucks may not prioritize your safety and convenience. You always have the right to call your own tow service; just keep your receipt and submit it to the rental company for reimbursement under your rental agreement’s roadside coverage.
What to Tell Your Insurance Company
Most major US auto insurance policies include roadside assistance. Call your insurer’s emergency line and give them your exact location (use Google Maps to get a pin address), the nature of the breakdown (flat tire, won’t start, overheating, accident), and your preferred tow destination. If you don’t know a shop in Las Vegas, ask us — we know all the major dealerships and independent repair shops in the valley.
