Valet & Towing: What to Do If Your Vehicle Is Towed While Staying at a Vegas Resort

Few things ruin a Vegas trip faster than returning to a hotel parking lot and finding your vehicle gone. Unauthorized parking tows on the Las Vegas Strip happen hundreds of times each week — and navigating the process of recovering your vehicle in an unfamiliar city can be confusing and expensive if you don’t know what to do.

First Steps: Confirm It Was Towed (Not Stolen)

Before you panic, verify the vehicle was actually towed. Call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at (702) 828-3111 (non-emergency line) and give them your license plate number. They can confirm whether the vehicle was reported as towed or stolen within minutes. This one step can save you a lot of confusion.

Who Towed It and Where Is It?

Private property tows in Nevada must be reported to local law enforcement within one hour. When you call Metro, they’ll give you the name of the towing company and the impound lot address. In the Las Vegas area, this is typically one of the large impound facilities in North Las Vegas or near Sahara.

You can also ask the hotel’s valet or parking management — they’re required to know which tow company they use and must provide that information on request.

Nevada’s Private Property Tow Rules

Under Nevada law, a property owner must post clearly visible signage warning of the towing policy before a vehicle can be lawfully towed. Signs must meet specific size and placement requirements. If signage was absent, inadequate, or misleading, you may have grounds to dispute the tow and recover your fees.

Keep photos of the parking area and any signage (or lack thereof) as soon as you discover the tow — this evidence is critical for any dispute.

Getting Your Vehicle Released

Bring: valid photo ID, proof of vehicle ownership or rental agreement, and cash or a credit card. Nevada limits certain impound fees, but after-hours and storage fees can add up quickly. You have the right to a written itemized receipt for all charges — demand one before paying.

If you believe the tow was unlawful, pay under protest, retrieve your vehicle, and then file a complaint with the Nevada Transportation Authority and potentially pursue a small claims court action for a refund.
